Discover magazine April 2017: 3 New Discoveries in PANDAS-PANS

“Hidden Invaders.  Infections can trigger immune Attacks on Kids’ brains, provoking devastating psychiatric disorders,”  by medical writer, Pamela Weintraub, outlines the history of PANDAS-PANS and new BREAKTHROUGH research that shows the presence of three new discoveries:

autoantibodies in the brain (Cunningham, Univ of OK),immune cells that strep inspires, TH17 open the barrier to the brain (Agalliu, Columbia Univ), and,  new lymphatic channels link the immune system to the brain (Kipnis, Univ of VA).  This is neuroscience research in mice but translates well to this disease.

Funding for research is needed to continue to show it in the human model.
