Calgary parents raise awareness about little-known childhood illness

Marnie and Richard Deschenes recall watching their son’s personality shift as he suddenly exhibited rage, violent outbursts and erratic behavior. The family spent 3.5 years looking for treatments for their son’s severe symptoms before receiving a PANDAS diagnosis—a glimpse of hope. Determined to help other Canadian parents gain access to resources for PANDAS diagnoses and treatments, they set up a national charity to raise awareness of the condition and help connect other parents to critical resources.
