Little-Known PANDAS Syndrome Getting Attention

In 2019, PANDAS and PANS drew the attention of legislators in 16 states. These states enacted various measures to raise awareness and ensure treatment coverage—as PANDAS and PANS have no official diagnosis code, lawmakers allowed providers to code them as autoimmune encephalitis to guarantee insurance coverage. Additionally, Arkansas, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Delaware and Illinois now require insurance plans to cover treatments for the conditions.
