Medical Mystery: What explained second-grader’s sudden panic and obsessions?

One day, Will Teague kept saying the car smelled funny and he wouldn’t go back in it. He was later fine, and his mom, Christina Teague, wasn’t worried. Then Will began having phobias at school and started expediting OCD-like behavior. After a multitude of studies, they found Will had PANDAS. He received a tonsillectomy and has shown no sign of PANDAS since, even after getting an occasional strep throat or bacterial infection.
