Pennsylvania Small Businesses Make a BIG Impact Toward PANDAS Research

The PANDAS Network is a small nonprofit trying to improve the lives of children and adults living with PANDAS/PANS in a BIG way. We are incredibly grateful for every donation, big or small, as it advances our mission.
Small Businesses Make a Big Difference
Chuck and Renee Lumio hosted the 2020 Lumio Casino Royale charity event for PANDAS research. The Lumio family holds a special place in our hearts as cherished friends and dedicated supporters of our cause.
Since 2013, they have played a pivotal role in the success of the PANDAS Network, establishing themselves as trailblazers in PANDAS/PANS advocacy. Their unwavering support, both individually and as community sponsors, has made a substantial impact on advancing PANDAS research.
Together, we are edging closer to discovering effective treatments for those impacted by this condition, thanks to their invaluable contributions. The generosity and ambition of these small business owners who have helped raise money for PANDAS research and advocacy since 2013!
Their Donations Are Making an Impact
The donations for this charity event were recently used to fund a grant proposal from a postdoctoral fellow, Noor Hussein, Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Dr. Hussein will use the grant money to investigate why a specialized white blood cell called a regulatory T cell is elevated in the blood of PANS patients. These anti-inflammatory cells play an important role in inhibiting neuroinflammation and preventing autoimmunity.
However, these cells are paradoxically increased in numbers. Therefore, Dr. Hussein will determine if these important cells have lost their ability to suppress brain inflammation in PANS patients who experience a PANS flare-up.
